ENGLISH 7                                                                                         Grade Level:  7

In this year-long course students will read a variety of literary selections including works from the grade  level  reading  list, pieces  from  Literature  and  Language  Arts  First  Course (Holt  Rinehart Winston), A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, and various poetry, nonfiction, and expository texts. Reading both fiction and nonfiction, students will work to analyze and discover meaning as they develop writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills to ensure understanding, application, and appreciation. Writing types are standards-based and focus on explanatory writing, argumentative writing, and narrative writing.

ENGLISH 7 HONORS                                                                                                                                                                          Grade Level:  7

 This course uses the English 7 core curriculum but is designed for the student who loves the challenges of complex, critical-thinking opportunities. An honors student can achieve goals without assistance, takes ideas to a higher level, and thrives on non-routine strategies.  An honors student must also master concepts quickly and require a faster-paced, rigorous curriculum. Additional higher- level literature selections are read and analyzed, and the writing assignments reflect greater depth, complexity, and independence.

ENGLISH 8                                                                                                                                                                                         Grade Level:  8

In this year-long course students will read a variety of literary selections including works from the grade level reading list, pieces from Literature and Language Arts Second Course (Holt Rinehart Winston), Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and various poetry, nonfiction, and expository texts. Reading both fiction and nonfiction, students will work to analyze and discover meaning as they develop writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills to ensure understanding, application, and appreciation. Writing types are standards-based and focus on explanatory writing, argumentative writing, and narrative writing.

ENGLISH 8 HONORS                                                                       Grade Level:  8

Additional higher-level literature selections are read and analyzed, and the writing assignments reflect greater depth, complexity, and independence.
